Understanding self is not an easy job as we keep encoutering our slashed ego, reservedness, rigidness and what not. We lead social life and everything in this world is a relation of relations. Some relations are temporary, some are stable and some may be permanant. Our necessity of thirst for peace of mind 24/7 will push us to make sure every relation has an essense of pleasantness and coziness and it is absolutely in our hands to make it possible.
It is very simple, we feel comfortable if we make our surroundings comfortable; which actually depends on how good we understand our surroundings. Understanding here is to perceive and sense our reaction for every action that our surrounding gives us. This makes us remember famous proverb 'Treat others as how you want to be treated'. If every word that we utter, every gesture that we make, every expression that we give out comes back to us from other person in the same way that we did , can we really be able to take it? Certainly not, unless you are really really wise! Accepting things as they are requires extreme receptive power. This is the secret of knowing ourself and when you keep knowing it, you will feel the happiness of meeting an excellent person in this world.
The day you will learn to laugh at yourself will be the beginning of your growth.
A simple example here, what if we are surrounded by people with our mentality; i.e. surrounded by poeple with nature same as ours. Can you accept them as your friends? Those are none other than people same as self , possesing same level interpersonal skills, the sensitive nature, same level of ego and aggression as we have and what not!
In short, can we accept a copy pasted personality of ourself?... Give yourself few seconds to think on this. Is it tough? If your answers is Yes, then you must be very wise....; otherwise, Is it really tough to accept ourself? We know about ourself better than anyone else in this world and if we cannot accept ourself whom we know since we are born, can we really accept anyone else in our life? We keep hearing people say, happiness lies in our hands, its all about our perception towards the world. Yes! Its true, if we are incapable of keeping ourself happy, can we really make others happy? It is all about how well we know about ourself and make ourself stay in the state of happiness.
